Methodology
- What a valuation is. A cents-per-point figure estimates what a point is worth when redeemed well for travel. It is not a price and not a promise.
- Where the numbers come from. This month we show a published, dated third-party benchmark (The Points Guy) and the fixed redemption values issuers state themselves. We have not yet built our own sweet-spot model, so we do not publish a Jetset Miles number. Any future figure of ours will be labeled "our estimate" with the math shown.
- How to use it. Compare a redemption to the benchmark. For a business class award, divide the cash price minus taxes and fees by the points needed, then multiply by 100. Our cost-per-mile calculator does this and includes transfer bonuses.
- Conflicts. TPG discloses that its founder is a Bilt advisor and investor. We have no financial relationship with TPG. We may earn a bonus from Amex referral links; see how we make money.
- Refresh. We update this page monthly and show the date at the top.
